
Short Film Contest for Safer Roads
The Short Film Contest for Safer Roads, organised by the Centre of Excellence for Road Safety (CoERS), IIT Madras, under the aegis of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), invites filmmakers, students, and storytellers to create original short films that communicate key road safety messages. The competition encourages responsible road behaviour and civic accountability among all road users through compelling narratives and impactful visual storytelling.

Terms and Conditions
- Open to Indian residents; participants below 18 must submit parental/guardian consent
- Teams allowed (maximum 5 members)
- Include brief description (100+ words), and no watermarks
- Entries must be original with no copyright infringing
- Video duration: 5 to 10 minutes
- Must strictly follow the given theme: Road Safety
- Any depiction of road use in the videos must be performed safely and in controlled environments. The organizers are not liable for any injury, damage, or legal issues arising from the creation or use of the submitted content
- The film must not include any content that promotes or endorses illegal, unsafe, or harmful activities. If the content depicts or refers to sensitive subjects such as smoking or alcohol consumption, an appropriate disclaimer must be clearly included
- No plagiarism
- Any regional language used must adhere strictly to the theme
Video Format Specifications
- Preferred formats:
MP4 (H.264 codec) (most accepted), MOV (Apple ProRes / H.264)
- Resolution:
1920 × 1080 (Full HD) – standard
3840 × 2160 (4K) – optional
- Frame rate:
24 fps / 25 fps / 30 fps
- Aspect ratio:
16:9 (most festivals)
1.85:1 or 2.39:1 (cinematic – optional)
Submission Requirements
Winner Selection Criteria
Winners will be evaluated by a jury based on:
- The clarity of the road safety message
- Creativity of storytelling
- Visual and technical quality (including cinematography, editing, sound, and overall production)
- Originality (no plagiarism)
- Adherence to rules (duration, format, and other guidelines)
- Relevance to real-world road safety issues
- Overall effectiveness in promoting safe practices
- All entries must comply with the submission terms and conditions.
Gratification
- 1st place: ₹20,000
- 2nd place: ₹12,500
- 3rd place: ₹7,500
Timeline
- Last day of submission: February 15, 2026
- Results Announcement: March 4, 2026
