About RBG Labs

Founded in 2002 by Prof. Venkatesh Balasubramanian, RBG Labs at IIT Madras is a pioneering centre for human factors research grounded in first principles-based design thinking. It focuses on solving complex societal problems through rigorous scientific methods and evidence-based innovation across transportation, manufacturing, healthcare, rail systems, and scientific policing.

The Lab’s flagship innovation frameworks—including the Transportation Safety Framework (TSF), the Suzhal Management System (SMS), and the RBG Innovation Paradigm (RIP)—enable systemic improvements in safety, productivity, and service delivery. These frameworks have driven new product development and process optimisation across India’s road safety ecosystem and key industrial sectors.
