The 5K Run for Road Safety is organised by the Centre of Excellence for Road Safety (CoERS), IIT Madras, as part of National Road Safety Month 2026. The event provides a simple and inclusive platform to engage the public and promote awareness of safer road practices.
The run is designed as a non-competitive public engagement activity that encourages participation across age groups and backgrounds while reinforcing key road safety messages.
Road safety awareness requires sustained public participation and shared responsibility among road users. Community-based activities such as public runs provide an opportunity to communicate road safety messages in an accessible and relatable manner.
The 5K Run aims to create a visible public forum for interaction and awareness, encouraging participants to reflect on everyday road behaviours and carry forward road safety messages within their personal and professional circles.
The event is open to students, working professionals, fitness groups, road safety advocates, and members of the general public.
