IIT-M in a tie-up to improve road safety measures

IIT Madras’s Centre of Excellence for Road Safety (CoERS) is partnering with HL Mando Anand India Limited (HLMAIL) to develop advanced automotive technology products including driver assistance systems, electronic power steering and stability control systems to improve road safety.
Through this collaboration, researchers plan to identify critical driver behaviour, road user behaviour and how vehicle control features can be monitored or influenced to improve road safety.

They will also collaborate on design and development of vehicle systems to reduce human errors while driving.

Road accidents have claimed 1,53,972 lives in 2021 and injured 3,84,448 people. Driver error has been identified as the major contribution to road crashes leading to 84% crashes and 80% of fatalities and 84% injuries in 2016.Despite various attempts by stakeholders to bring down accidents,it continues to increase each year. Apart from designing safer roads, safer vehicles are equally pertinent to address the issue, researchers said.
