Training the driver and road user is the prime focus for enhancing road safety. Evaluation of the driver’s skills and knowledge, analysis and further training with the help of technological inducements like applications, and driving simulators can be the way forward.
In this context, working with Red Chariots Technologies Pvt Ltd, Centre of Excellence for Road Safety has trained over 2,009 school and college drivers in four districts in Tamil Nadu, primarily focusing on Chennai District. The training of drivers was based on a simulator-based training session emphasising “Unlearn, Relearn and Retain” – to unlearn unsafe driving practices, relearn the best driving practices and retain the rules to become a skilled defensive driver.
Further, to continue this journey, Centre of Excellence for Road Safety (CoERS), IIT Madras, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Red Chariots Technologies Private Limited on January 22, 2024, at IIT Madras to collaborate in knowledge sharing to focus on technological solutions for road safety by developing products and processes and enhancing road user behaviour through driver training.
