Comparative Analysis of Road Traffic Calming Measures
Driver behaviour is a major contributing factor in Over-Speeding. In addition, road infrastructure, and vehicle facilities/ amalgamations play a key role. Crash severity is
proportional to the speed of the vehicle; at higher speeds, the impact is greater, and the probability of fatality is higher. Traffic calming measures have proven to be
effective in reducing vehicular speeds and elevating the level of road safety.
In a road network, intersections and crossroads pose higher risks. Significant challenges are associated when a major road meets with roads of lesser priority such as National Highway intersecting with State Highways or Major District Roads. The intricacy of traffic flow due to varying speed leads to the possibility of frequent accidents in these intersections. Henceforth, Traffic Calming Measures (TCM) can be strategically deployed at such critical locations along these routes to improve safety.
