The Capacity Building Workshop on Data-Driven Hyperlocal Interventions (DDHI), conducted by the Centre of Excellence for Road Safety (CoERS), IIT Madras, in collaboration with the Directorate of Transport, Government of Goa, was designed to strengthen institutional capacity for data-driven road safety management across the state. The programme brought together officials from the Police Department, Transport Department, Health Department, Road Owning Agencies, and other key stakeholder organisations involved in road safety implementation.
The workshop introduced participants to the DDHI framework and its role in supporting agencies to identify local road safety risks, prioritise interventions, and monitor progress using field-level data. Participants were also familiarised with Sanjaya, a digital platform that enables road safety monitoring, field reporting, and evidence-based decision-making through the use of local data.
The training was delivered through classroom sessions, practical demonstrations, and field-based exercises. Participants gained exposure to road safety assessment methodologies, data collection processes, and the application of DDHI tools in real-world settings. Field activities enabled officials to assess road safety conditions and apply the concepts discussed during the workshop.
The programme also provided a platform for stakeholders to review field observations, discuss local road safety challenges, and explore coordinated approaches for improving road safety outcomes. Through its train-and-transfer model, the DDHI programme aims to build long-term institutional capacity and support sustained, data-driven road safety interventions across the state.
