The Structured Crash Investigation using Root Cause Analysis Matrix (RCAM) training programme is organized by the Centre of Excellence for Road Safety (CoERS), IIT Madras to strengthen scientific crash investigation capabilities among enforcement agencies and road safety professionals. The programme introduces a structured methodology to analyze road crashes using the Root Cause Analysis Matrix (RCAM) framework.
The training focuses on understanding the human, vehicle, and environmental factors that contribute to road crashes and equips participants with practical tools to conduct evidence-based crash investigations. Through expert sessions, case studies, field inspections, and hands-on exercises, participants will learn how to systematically identify root causes and document findings to support better road safety interventions.
Structured Crash Investigation using Root Cause Analysis Matrix (RCAM)
This three-day intensive training programme provides a structured approach to crash investigation using the RCAM methodology. Participants will explore the full crash analysis process – from pre-impact conditions to post-impact outcomes – through a combination of classroom sessions, scene inspections, and practical demonstrations.
The training emphasizes real-world applications of crash investigation techniques, enabling participants to systematically collect evidence, analyze contributing factors, estimate vehicle speeds, and document findings using the RCAM framework. The programme aims to build institutional capacity for data-driven crash analysis and improved road safety decision-making.
